These beautiful wall hangings
are shown in several techniques. The first is coromandel, the
ancient Chinese art of layering clay and lacquer over wood, carving
designs in the clay and painting or gold-leafing the designs. Silk screen is
a traditional
Japanese art. The screen is made of a soft wood frame which is wrapped
with silk. Designs are painted with watercolor and the border is
covered with brocade. The panels are bound together with overlapping
silk instead of being hinged together. And the third method used is oil
paint over wood.
